X,

Why is it that when I write that we need a "radical overhaul of traffic policing" what you see is "we need more of the same idiot cops doing the same idiot shiz they've been doing for the last 100 years, none of which has ever worked?"

1. all cops are the same, they think the same, no matter what neo education you provide they will always get out on the street and do things they way its done on the street, They all gotta stick together like the zombies on I Am Legend. They aren't paid enough do memorize the entire traffic code, don't care enough to worry about our little bike wows and never will. Keep kickin on those cacti though. You say radical overhaul, politicians convert to, "we need more cops"

Believe me i know what you are sayin ..its fun to fantasize about, but then again so is rippin deep pow everday for the rest of my life, it aint remotely feasible.

The last congressman I knew had a wide stance. I'm not goin' there.

So what it comes down to is, we're doomed.

Still stuck on the fact that MrQ admitted breaking the traffic laws in both of the accidents he has been in and yet somehow blames the othe guy, shirking responsibility, and at the same time calls for complete overhaul of the recruitment, selection, training, and numbers of police officers?

And ya'll need to start showing a lot more respect for the men and women that put their very lives on the line every day to try and protect you from the truly fucked up and evil cunts that are out there ready to cut you for a buck!

Ttoz -

I would normally endorse you all the way on that last sentence - if it weren't for the fact that our Hospital has hired a "small town country cop" for an extra job in our ER - that - well

how should I put this?

He's one hood short of burning a cross on the lawn - if you get my drift.

In our totally international atmosphere - that's like putting Rush Limbaugh in charge of Sensitivity training at UCLA Berkely.

Oddly, I have made a couple of attempts to get out of aviation.
Both times was because I liked where I was and the aerospace gig dried up.

One of these attempted escapes was as an access systems specialist. Privacy gates, parking garages, rolling steel fire doors and such.

The other, I wore a uniform, carried a gun, had a badge.Yes, no shit.
I really loved helping people, breaking up fights and watching over the needy. But I must say from an inside perspective that there are those that want to serve, and those that think they are.

The split in this type of attitude favored the latter. I quit because of it. Well that and the pay was....well...it would take the rest of my life to get the level to decent.

There are a lot of pirates....that wear a badge....unfortunately.

You lie.

I've been hit four times since returning to the States in '99, three of which were 100% the fault of the drivers. On the fourth incident, the one four years ago, I have only admitted to violating a stop sign because I could not stop on ice while going downhill; the car driver could stop but didn't. The cop didn't even bother to interview me before absolving the driver of any culpability.

And cops don't protect us from bad guys. What they do is show up to deal with the mess, which mostly these days involves taking reports, when bad things happen. When they say "crime is down," what they really mean is "the cops are filing fewer reports." But is that because fewer crimes are actually happening, or because people know the cops are mostly worthless bumps and they just don't bother making the call?

There are assholes in every walk of life. Cops, armed forces, lawyers, you name it. However what Q seems it miss is that EVERY time a cop puts on the uniform he/she becomes a target of abuse and sometimes bullets. Solving crimes is no easy task and dealing with the mess sometimes means hunting down some of the most vile assholes on the planet. Sometimes it means putting themselves in mortal danger saving you from the aftermath of earthquakes, pulling you out of the river, and cordoning off the area cause some puke has taken his wife hostage.

I've never worn the badge but have helped lots of these everyday Heros to deal with the mess they face protecting YOU.

A good buddy of mine was stabbed in the back while making a "routine" arrest of a B&E perp one afternoon. I was called to the hospital to help his wife and four year old son deal with the situation. Later I held him in my arms while the doc stuck a tube about six inches into the wound to flush it out with an antiseptic.

I tell you this because it seems to me you just don't fucking get it.

TTozzzeerererr, we seem to experience different realities. You say "Solving crimes is no easy task" while I'm saying cops don't solve crimes anymore.

Case in point--When I was a kid our house was broken into and things were stolen. The cops came and took fingerprints. They figured out who the thief was, arrested him, and he went to prison. Today, the cops don't even come out. They mail you a form to fill out and send back to them, and tell you to call your insurance company.

Ditto for traffic law.

The current crop of cops are worthless.

#1 - q: Actually per criminologists - crime is under-reported by at least 50%. So
if you think crime rates are bad - well they're twice as bad.

#2 - TTozz - I wear a uniform (suit) and carry a badge (private sector) and face
the same dangers. The fact that the vast majority of Law Enforcement officers
are really "the good guys" is a great testimony to men and women willing to
sacrifice for the benifit of others.

There are many who really serve and protect.

The response time, the overload, the red tape and the shear volume of
crime is not their fault. We as citizens can not afford to pay or can find
enough officer's to do pro-active patrol. That would mean one cop on every
street corner. That 's why there are three times more private security than
public olice.

BUT ! ! !

It take just one jerk to ruin decades of good policing, peace keeping,
patroling - to

Ruin the reputation of everyone else in uniform.

Look at what we ask the Police to do:

The Police are the only people we give the godlike power of life and death over us.

The cop has to make a split second decision on whether to shot or don't shoot. The courts cantake months and years to decide if that was a right decision.

Sometimes it would take an eternity if theat cop didn't make the right one for their safety.

In Houston we have lost far more ooficers in the line of duty at traffic stops being hit and killed by drunk drivers and other idiots behind the wheel.
